Arthritis Australia’s 2007 annual dinner was held at the Taronga Centre on Wednesday 28 March 2007.
The theme of this year’s dinner - surprising Adventures with Arthritis – was chosen to highlight that arthritis doesn’t prevent those living with the condition from having great experiences and adventures.
Blackmores was the evening’s Gold Sponsor.
As guests enjoyed a delicious three course meal accompanied by fine wines, they were surprised and entertained by Aboriginal performers, African drumming group Dagomba, and a group of crazy men dressed as sharks, Chrome.
Keynote speaker Professor John Edmonds acknowledged the importance of working together in order to raise funds for research into musculoskeletal disease.
The evening was a fundraising success thanks to our guests who purchased lots of raffle tickets and bid on some amazing auction items and experiences.
Money raised will assist Arthritis Australia in continuing to raise awareness, delivering education and support services, and providing annual research grants for enabling better understanding of the disease as well as more effective treatments.
In addition to Gold Sponsors Blackmores, Pfizer Australia was the Silver Sponsor and Bronze Sponsors were: Abbott Australasia, Boehringer Ingelheim and Print National.
Auction items and raffle prizes were kindly donated by: The Australian Ballet, Blackmores, Coffee School, Cook + Phillip Park, Darbar Fine Indian Cuisine, Herbie’s Spices, Life & Balance, Mark Sperling, Mercure Sydney, Murdoch Books, Nudie Foods Australia, Orthosports Group, Taronga Zoo, Westfield Bondi Junction and WPS International Motor Festival.

Bathurst 2009 WPS Bathurst Motor Festival 20-22 February
Organisers of the 2009 WPS Bathurst 12-Hour Showroom Enduro are pleased to welcome back Arthritis Australia as its official charity for the third year in a row.
Arthritis Australia is the peak arthritis organisation in Australia. It is supported by affiliate offices in every state and territory.
The Event will even have its own unofficial poster boy for Arthritis Australia in the form of competitor Bob Pearson, who competed in the 2008 Event with two fresh new hips. In 2009, Pearson will lead the star-studded Pro-Duct entry which features Glenn Seton and Brad Jones in its driver list.
With nearly one in five Australians now suffering from a form of arthritis the condition directly affects more than 18.5 percent of the population and can indirectly affect their businesses, colleagues, friends and family.
Arthritis is the major cause of disability and chronic pain in Australia, with 3.85 million Australians affected at a cost to our economy of more than $23.9 billion each year in medical care and indirect costs such as loss of earnings and lost production. Emotionally and socially, the hidden costs of arthritis are immeasurable.
As the population ages, the number of people with arthritis is growing. According to leading researcher Access Economics, current trends suggest that, by 2050, 7 million Australians will have some form of arthritis.
There is a widely held belief that arthritis is simply a consequence of age, the pain of growing old. But it is not a natural part of ageing. In fact 62 percent of all people living with the disease are of working age and it can also occur within children.
It is hoped that the partnership between Arthritis Australian and the WPS Bathurst 12-Hour Showroom Enduro can further raise the awareness of arthritis across the country while assisting to raise funds.
“Arthritis is a condition which affects millions of people across Australia, many of whom are people of the age who will be coming to the WPS Bathurst 12-Hour Showroom Enduro to appreciate the motor racing heritage in Australia,” said Event Director James O’Brien.
“We are delighted to welcome back Arthritis Australia as our official charity for the 2009 WPS Bathurst 12-Hour Showroom Enduro and will be working with them throughout the next few months and across the event to assist in raising the awareness and donations while also offering discounted tickets for members of the organisation.
“It is also great to see Bob Pearson back again after a successful 2008 campaign – he is a true representation of the fact that Arthritis doesn’t have to mean the end of doing what you love and he certainly showed that when he topped both pre-qualifying practice sessions and qualifying third in class in 2008.”
Arthritis Australia relies on the generosity of community groups, individuals and corporate sponsors for most of its funding. The association is looking forward to working with organisers of the WPS Bathurst Motor Festival to raise awareness of the condition.
"We are thrilled to be the official charity for the 2009 WPS Bathurst 12-Hour Showroom Enduro after such a successful 2008 and 2007 involvement," said Arthritis Australia's CEO Ainslie Cahill.
"To be on board with such a well-run Event enables us to reach a new audience and continue raising awareness, which is really exciting for everyone here at Arthritis Australia."
The 2009 WPS Bathurst Showroom Enduro will be held at Mount Panorama on February 20-22.
The 2008 WPS 12 Hour Showroom Enduro attracted in excess of 100 drivers across 37 entries from various parts of Australia and New Zealand with the Mitsubishi Evo 9 of Damien White, Graham Alexander and Rod Salmon taking the victory.
