2010 Arthritis Australia Awareness Program Summary

The 2010 awareness program built on the learnings of 2009 by focusing on television as the most effective media channel and the successful television and radio creative that featured Ita Buttrose. The result was a 30% increase in hits to the Arthritis Australia website, more than 37,000 PDF downloads of information (the highest number ever recorded), and nearly 3,000 consumer calls to the call centre and the Affiliate offices.

For the second year running, Arthritis Australia provided highly personalised and tailored information to consumers both online or to those who contacted by telephone. More than 30 information sheets and booklets were available for download in English, and an additional 39 sheets in five languages including Chinese, Italian, Greek, Vietnamese and Arabic.

The strength of the television creative and media campaign drove 91% of enquiries to the call centre, with an additional 400 calls over and above last year, with television as the source.

These results demonstrate for the second year that arthritis awareness and information is meeting a large demand in the community and catalyses changes in consumer behaviours. It demonstrates that a clear, simple arthritis awareness message delivered via the right channel (television) by a respected, credible individual (Ita Buttrose), backed by quality information and resources, results in improved health outcomes for consumers.

The opportunity for Arthritis Australia is to now take this learning to scale; to a wider audience with concentrated effort that will bring significantly improved health outcomes.
