A Legacy That Transforms Lives

For 75 years, Arthritis Australia has worked tirelessly to improve the lives of the more than 7 million Australians living with arthritis and MSK conditions. From our first annual general meeting in 1950, to establishing innovative patient resources and advocating for national health policy reforms, the organisation’s accomplishments are woven into the fabric of Australian healthcare.

– Pioneering research funding: Over four decades dedicated to supporting breakthrough research, education, and capacity-building for the next generation of clinicians and scientists.

– Leading policy change: Arthritis Australia’s advocacy contributed to essential medicines access via the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme and resulted in the development of the National Strategic Action Plan for Arthritis and millions of dollars of funding for consumer information and support

– Elevating accessible design: More than 200 products have undergone testing, guiding industry standards and ensuring daily essentials are easier for people with arthritis to use.

A National Call to Action: Investing for Tomorrow

The event at Parliament House also served as a rallying point for systemic change. Arthritis Australia called for a bold commitment: a $100+ million Medical Research Future Fund Mission exclusively dedicated to arthritis and MSK conditions. Citing a recent feasibility analysis, the mission promises a 2.2x reduction in health system and productivity burden, supporting 64 research and clinical jobs per year, and delivering a remarkable return on investment – every $1 invested generates $4.61 in societal value.

A Vision for the Next 75 Years

– Unify clinical, consumer and research voices to develop evidence-based solutions that accelerate prevention, diagnosis, cures and rehabilitation.

– Ensure equitable access to care and strengthen Australia’s research pipeline for future generations.

– Foster collaboration, innovation, and data-sharing to tackle health inequities and improve outcomes for all Australians.
