Accessible Design Guidance
Accessible Design Guidance is a test used when a company is in the process of designing or redesigning a product. The report breaksdown a product’s design elements and evaluates each element’s accessibility individually. The report also ranks packaging design and labelling issues based on their likely impact on consumers. The report can also consider design elements in the context of known manufacturing and regulatory constraints, as well as considering elements that can be provided as mock-ups, prototypes or other product/material samples. The report also provides suggested design modifications and may provide examples of other products that overcame an identified design issue/s.
Cost: $4,950 (excluding GST)*
Testing time: 3-8 weeks
Samples required:
- Product samples:
- Accessible Design Guidance can consider design elements from different prototypes, mock-ups or product/material samples that are intended to be used in a final product, please provide as many samples as possible of each element that is to be included in the report. Please also provide a detailed brief, identifying each element and how it is intended to be used in the final product.
- Labelling samples:
- Provide an editable labelling artwork design file, preferably an Adobe Illustrated document (.ai or .eps).
- All files and images of labelling must come at the exact size of the final product (labels are NOT to be scaled up or down).
- Labelling files should be provided with and without die cut lines to indicate where folds and seals will be.
- Provide current labelling samples (printed on the final material) if possible; alternatively supply a printout in combination with material samples of what the final label would be printed on.
- If labelling is printed on a complex package form, providing a diagram of how the labelling would be placed on the packaging would be suggested.
* Only available to clients who have signed a minimum of a $10K consulting agreement
Initial Scientific Review - Partial Review / Prototype Review
Initial Scientific Review – Partial Review / Prototype Review report is in the same easy to understand format as the ISR, but is used to evaluate specific elements of the packaging or prototype during the design and development process. The report can provide an indicative accessibility rating, but the final complete product still needs to be validated by an ISR. This service can assist you in making informed decisions along the development process, so you can choose the most easy-open option for your customers.
Note: Samples or prototypes may attain a different rating to finished products because of changes that can occur at a manufacturing level or because of packaging elements that were excluded during testing.
Cost: $2,990 (excluding GST)
Testing time: 3-6 weeks
Samples required: 15 samples of each if available, please contact the Accessible Design Division if this is not possible
Labelling Evaluation
Labelling Evaluation is a design report that offers an evaluation of the labelling only. The report breaks down a product’s labelling design and evaluates each element in the context of legibility and readability. It does not evaluate the packaging design or provide an Accessibility Rating. This report is used when designing or redesigning labelling. It can also be used when deciding between multiple labelling designs.
Cost: $1,100 (excluding GST)*
Testing time: 3-8 weeks
Samples required:
- All labelling must be provided at the exact size of the final product (labels are NOT to be scaled up or down).
- Labels must be provided as both a soft and hard copy version.
- Soft copy: The digital files can be supplied as high quality PDF’s and should be provided with and without die cut lines to indicate where folds and seals will be.
- Hard copy: Labelling samples are preferably printed on the final material; alternatively supply a printout in combination with material samples of what the final label would be printed on.
- If labelling is printed on a complex package form, providing a diagram of how the labelling would be placed on the packaging would be suggested.
* Only available to clients who have signed a minimum of a $10K consulting agreement
Labelling Concepts
Labelling Concepts provide visual concept/s and alternative ways to improve the legibility and accessibility rating of a product. It can tailor design recommendations based on known manufacturing/regulatory constraints.
Note: All concepts are NOT final artwork, but instead an example to help communicate how to improve accessibility within your labelling constraints.
Cost: $1,590 (excluding GST)*
Testing time: 3-8 weeks
Samples required:
- Provide an editable labelling artwork design file, preferably an Adobe Illustrated document (.ai or .eps).
- The size of the label and all information that is to appear on the label must be provided.
All files and images of labelling must come at the exact size of the final product (labels are NOT to be scaled up or down). - Labelling files should be provided with and without die cut lines to indicate where folds and seals will be.
